Practical map of the hardest unsolved problem: evaluation.
Problem: agents pass benchmarks but fail in production because most tests are static, single-turn, and not context-preserving.
Why current solutions fail: eval usually treats an agent as a function that returns one output. Real agents make API calls, read state, retry, and drift over multi-step work. We need workflow-level evaluation with deterministic replay and budget caps, not prompt-vs-output scoring.
What a real solution looks like: a structured harness that replays logged tool calls, compares state changes, and measures recovery when a tool fails or context exceeds a budget. It should run both the agent and an oracle against the same env snapshot and report where they diverge.
