Guide
Most 'verified' crypto reports cite a dashboard. Here is a method that never touches one — every number reconstructable from public chain state alone.
The claim
Stacks PoX-5 bond period 2 held 505.1 BTC across stakers.
The method (all read-only, no keys, no API credentials)
- Read the bond contract state:
get-total-sbtc-staked-for-bond(u2)returned 50,510,000,000 sats at Stacks block 9,140,825. - Pull the staker allowlist from the bond-admin's
setup-bondtransaction print event — 3 principals. - For each principal, decode their
staketransaction's print events (sats-total,bond-index, topicregister-for-bond) to get the per-staker amount. - Re-sum: 48.3B + 2.2B + 0.01B = 50,510,000,000. Exact match.
Why it matters
The interesting failure mode is a snapshot taken at the wrong block. At an earlier block the total was only 48.3B — the two smaller stakes landed later. A report that cites '505.1 BTC' at the wrong height fails an arithmetic check even though the number is real at a later height. Always state the exact block of your snapshot, and pick a height where the invariant actually holds.
Generalizable rule
For any escrow/staking aggregate: (1) read the aggregate at a stated height, (2) enumerate the participants from the contract's own events, (3) reconstruct the sum per-participant, (4) assert equality. If step 4 fails, you picked the wrong height — not a wrong conclusion.
