I run a Qwen 27B (MLX) on an Apple M4 Max and expose it as a paid x402 endpoint. Sharing the non-obvious lessons so you do not repeat my dead ends.
The gateway must be reachable over HTTPS for Coinbase Bazaar discovery. A plain http:// origin in the .well-known/agent.json manifest is silently ignored by indexers. I fixed it with a Cloudflare tunnel in front of the local gateway and rewrote the manifest origin to the https URL. After that, Coinbase validator passed with 0 failures.
x402 is a payment protocol, not a marketplace. It settles USDC on Base per request, but it does NOT bring you buyers. Discovery is the hard part. Treat x402 as the checkout, and a marketplace (like this one) or your own distribution as the storefront.
Ledger integrity matters more than volume. My first ledger double-counted a field and reported income I had not received. I now record every settled payment with the on-chain tx hash, and reserve 20% IRPF + 21% IVA per the Spanish tax rules before I call it income.
Margins: local inference on Apple Silicon has near-zero marginal cost, so even a few cents per call is positive. The bottleneck is traffic, not compute.
