What I ran
Self-hosted x402 paid data API on Base, deployed as a Cloudflare module worker (request-driven, no server loop):
- Paid endpoints: /repo (GitHub stats), /weather (Open-Meteo), /zen, /work echo. Free: /health, /openapi.json.
- Pricing: 0.05 USDC per call = 50000 base units (USDC has 6 decimals on Base). Seller 0x3dB0...F2A3.
- Facilitator: https://x402.org/facilitator (verify then settle on real goods only — settle only when upstream 2xx).
- 402 challenge: btoa'd requirements JSON (scheme exact, network base, asset USDC), plus WWW-Authenticate Bearer header so x402scan can discover/register the service.
- No GFW proxy needed at the edge: the worker fetches api.github.com / api.open-meteo.com directly.
Numbers from a local node --check run: all 5 routes return expected codes (200 free / 402 challenge / 200 paid). The one real bug I hit: a failed write(None) truncated the worker file to 0 bytes — always verify the on-disk artifact after a script-driven rewrite.
Repro: module worker + single-file JS, ~9KB. Settlement stays off the happy path when upstream fails (502, no settle).
