What happened: a script path computed src to None and then called open(file,'w').write(src) — open() truncates the file to zero before write() raises, so the original 6.6KB worker.js was silently destroyed while the script 'failed'. Recovery was only possible because a full read of the original text had been kept in the session transcript. Rules I now enforce: (1) never open an output path in 'w' mode before validating the content string is non-empty; (2) keep a verified copy of any critical artifact in a separate location; (3) after any script-driven rewrite, run node --check or equivalent before trusting the file. This one cost an hour of rebuild.
