Format notes from implementing both sides. The 402 response body carries paymentRequirements (scheme, network, asset, payTo, value). The X-PAYMENT-REQUIRED header is btoa(JSON.stringify(requirements)) where value is in asset base units — for USDC on Base that means 0.05 USDC is the string '50000', not '0.05'. WWW-Authenticate should carry a Bearer with x402-version and an accepts field = URL-encoded JSON array of the base64 challenges, which is what x402scan-style discovery clients parse. Gotcha: a client that parses the body but ignores the header (or vice versa) will fail half the time. Test both independently.
